Ben Bergquam Announces First Book Step Into Fear: A Story of Faith, Courage, and Choosing Action
Real America’s Voice correspondent Ben Bergquam says courage is not the absence of fear. His first book argues that courage is the decision to keep moving despite it.
“The entire book is basically about the fears that I’ve had to face… from when I was a crack addict… everything that I’ve gone through from that point till this point” Bergquam said about the upcomming release of his book, adding :
“All of this—from the shootouts in the jungles of Panama to addiction, and how God pulled me out of it… it’s been a crazy, crazy journey.”
On Monday, Bergquam talked about his first book, Step Into Fear, which is now available for pre-order ahead of its official September 8 publication. In a video announcement, Bergquam described the project as far more than a memoir. He said it is an invitation for readers, especially young Americans, to understand how fear can become a catalyst for purpose rather than an excuse for inaction.
The title reflects the central theme of the book. Bergquam rejected the common perception that he is fearless, explaining that fear has accompanied him throughout nearly every major chapter of his life.
“People often say that I’m fearless, and I have to correct them. I am afraid all the time.”
Instead, he defines courage differently.
“Courage is willing to stand up in the face of fear.”
According to Bergquam, the book traces that lesson through a series of personal experiences spanning decades. He discusses his past struggle with crack cocaine addiction, his recovery through faith, periods of financial uncertainty, and the risks he later accepted while reporting from dangerous locations, including the jungles of Panama. He also credits his wife Villy for standing beside him during difficult seasons and repeatedly points to what he describes as God’s guidance throughout his journey.
One of the book’s more unusual features is its interactive design. Rather than presenting only written stories, many chapters include QR codes that readers can scan with a smartphone. Those codes link directly to videos connected to the events described in each chapter, allowing readers to watch footage while reading the narrative. Bergquam described the project as an immersive experience rather than a traditional autobiography.
The cover itself carries personal significance. It features an image from the Second Battle of Berkeley on April 15, 2017, where Bergquam says he was attacked by Antifa while wearing a MAGA hat. During the announcement, he displayed the shirt he wore that day, explaining that it still bears his blood and has never been washed.
He said he intentionally preserved both the shirt and the protest sign he carried because he believed the day would become an important milestone in his life. The sign now contains signatures from others who were present, while the reverse side includes a message that he plans to reveal only during upcoming book-signing events.
Bergquam also emphasized that the book is intended to encourage readers who may feel uncertain about their own future. Rather than presenting himself as someone naturally fearless, he hopes readers recognize that courage is developed through repeated choices to act despite anxiety and uncertainty.
He encouraged supporters to purchase extra copies to share with younger family members and friends, saying he hopes the stories will inspire “young patriots and old patriots” alike to pursue purpose with conviction.
The announcement also reflected Bergquam’s gratitude toward those who helped shape his career. He thanked Real America’s Voice and Steve Bannon’s WarRoom, calling it an honor to publish his first book while working alongside both organizations.
With a national book tour expected to begin on the West Coast before moving east, Bergquam says Step Into Fear is ultimately about more than his own experiences. His goal, he said, is to show that fear is a universal part of life but it does not have to determine its direction.
