For a new episode of Law & Border on Real America’s Voice, investigative journalist and host of the program, Ben Bergquam, teamed up with Mexican reporter Oscar “El Blue” Ramirez to expose cartel tunnels operating just steps away from the U.S.–Mexico border wall in Tijuana. Bergquam added, “You won’t see this on CNN!”
The report comes as former federal prosecutor Jeanine Pirro, now U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, confirmed the scale of cartel operations in a post this week: “You are looking at the largest seizure of precursor chemicals used to manufacture methamphetamine in U.S. history. China was sending over 700,000 lbs on the high seas to the Sinaloa Cartel before my office seized them. Because President Trump and Secretary Rubio declared the Sinaloa Cartel a Foreign Terrorist Organization, we can now strike faster and hit harder.”
That statement provides context for what Oscar and Ben uncovered on the ground: tunnels carved beneath warehouses and homes, some so brazen they run directly under Mexican Customs facilities.
Tunnels Beneath Guard Posts
Oscar walked viewers through a stretch of roadway beside the border wall where commercial lines had been opened to ease traffic. Just a few feet away, cartel-built tunnels ran underneath warehouses disguised as legitimate businesses—some storing electronics, others operating as oxygen suppliers for hospitals.
“One tunnel was discovered by American authorities before Mexican forces even knew about it,” Oscar reported. “That’s possibly the first time in history. The U.S. sounded the alarm, and both sides sealed it with cement, adding sensors to detect movement.”
Nearby homes have also been bought out by cartel money, sometimes double the asking price, to dig passageways beneath living rooms and couches. “For cartels, $100,000 is nothing,” Oscar noted. “They can buy an entire lane of houses to expand their network.”
The Trump Effect
According to Oscar and Ben, it was pressure from the Trump administration that forced Mexico to take stronger enforcement measures. “This isn’t just about Trump saying he’s doing a better job at the border,” Oscar explained. “He pushed the Mexican government to act, forcing them to seal tunnels and deploy their National Guard.”
One recent bust—2.7 tons of narcotics—was intercepted only because Trump demanded canine inspections, X-ray machines, and multiple security layers before cargo crossed into the U.S. “Under Biden, those inspections disappeared,” Oscar added. “Now it’s wide open again.”
Corruption on Both Sides
The report also pointed to political corruption enabling the trade. “Everybody knows in Mexico that American politicians are bought off,” Oscar said. “You see it when leaders like Gavin Newsom fight to block deportations of dangerous criminals while pretending it’s about helping the vulnerable.”
The footage ends on the U.S. side in Otay Mesa, where sprawling warehouses and trucking facilities mask the exit points of cartel tunnels. “Thank God for President Trump taking the fight to the cartels on both sides,” Bergquam said. “But nothing will change until we prosecute the politicians, DAs, and judges—Mexican and American—who protect cartel operations.”
The message of the report is clear: the battle over border security is not just about fences and checkpoints—it’s about exposing the underground war beneath them.
