Biden to go “Full Trump” to try to Save His Campaign

According to media reports, sinking Democrat Joe Biden is set to announce an executive order to significantly restrict who the administration is calling “asylum-seekers” who are crossing the US-Mexico border.

The policy will not affect other border activities like trade or traffic and will reopen the border when daily crossings drop to 1,500. The Guardian reported that this executive action, which might face legal challenges, mirrors a Trump-era policy blocked by a federal court.

The order is expected as early as Tuesday and will allegedly use Presidential authority under “212(f)” to close the border to illegal crossings once a daily threshold of 2,500 is reached.

This decision addresses growing public concern over migration levels and pressures from Republicans and some Democrats. Progressive and Hispanic lawmakers have voiced strong opposition to the order, Biden’s administration’s most stringent border measure.

This executive action, which might face legal challenges, mirrors a Trump-era policy blocked by a federal court. The move follows the collapse of a bipartisan border security deal and aims to counter Republican accusations of Biden’s weak border management, particularly as he faces re-election.

Illegals will still be able to request asylum appointments at ports of entry, and unaccompanied children will be exempt from this order, according to CNN’s report from Monday.

The move addresses border security as Biden’s favorability is sinking due to record migration and political pressures, particularly before the first presidential debate with former President Donald Trump.

CNN reported that the policy, which has been under development for months, may still change before its official unveiling.

People identified by the administration as “key stakeholders” and border city mayors have been briefed and invited to the announcement event.
