Instead, they were handed over to a supposed “sponsor” who, instead of providing care and support, imposed a heavy debt on them. The children were then extorted for years, trapped in a cycle of exploitation and abuse.
Disturbingly, Muckraker’s investigation suggests that the Department of Health and Human Services has been aware of this trafficking ring for at least three years but has failed to take action to locate or rescue the trafficked children. The sponsor responsible for these crimes is allegedly connected to numerous other cases of children smuggled into the United States under similar circumstances, raising serious concerns about the safety protocols and oversight within the UC Program.
The trafficking ring was found to be operating within Florida’s 19th Congressional District, represented by Congressman Byron Donalds. The report suggests that this case is not an isolated incident but rather part of a broader, systemic issue within the UC Program, overseen by the Biden-Harris administration.
