Bottom Line: Washington needs to start listening to the people living with the consequences of its border failures, primarily as Democrat California Governor Gavin Newsom’s gun policies draw new fire from concerned Americans.
Call to Action: And the American people must do more than pay attention to these stories; we need to actively engage with our lawmakers, partnering with them to turn reporting and investigations into real legislative action. Outrage alone won’t change policy; citizens must show up at town halls, contact their representatives, and demand accountability. Every American, regardless of party, has a role to play in ensuring that critical legislation is introduced, supported, and passed
Zoom in: Just this week, while banning popular handguns for law-abiding citizens, Gov. Newsom has allowed non-citizen police officers, including DACA recipients, to carry the very firearms ordinary Californians are denied.
According to a California border watchdog and a Real America’s Voice correspondent, that double standard isn’t just political; it’s dangerous to our personal safety and our national security.
Investigations into a May 2025 police shooting in San Diego, California, and an October 2025 arrest in New Hanover, Illinois, reveal the details of what these two describe as serious security vetting failures in police departments that also waste taxpayer funds.
These border watchdogs warn that things like Newsom’s agenda is a warning about putting public safety at risk in ways that would shock the nation if only the mainstream media had the courage to report it.
Instead of the large media outlets leading the charge, independent reporters and citizen networks are stepping up, pooling their own resources to expose what’s happening and keep watch over America’s border when government accountability and media transparency fall short.
Enter Cory Gautereaux, a San Diego gun store owner and border expert, and Ben Bergquam, a Real America’s Voice correspondent and host of the popular Law and Border program, who each call it “insane” that foreigners- acting as police officers can have weapons Americans can not have, as foreigners are allowed to police the American people.
And they call on Americans to act now.
Together, these two firebrands, who have each detected known terrorists slipping over our borders in recent years, are urging Congress and representatives such as Chip Roy to ban non-citizen police officers before sanctuary City Democrats like Newsom, with his 2028 presidential ambitions, spread this chaos nationwide, for it’s obvious safety implications.
Deep Dive: From San Diego to Illinois: Non-Citizen Cops Spark Outrage
Gavin Newsom, eyeing a 2028 presidential run, is pushing policies that slap law-abiding citizens with gun bans while handing Glocks to non-citizen police officers who can’t legally own them.
Cory Gautereaux, a border security expert with a non-profit, and with deep ties to Trump administration figures, has long shared The Goat Initiative’s critical intelligence on cartel activity, urgently pressing contacts like Tulsi Gabbard and Joe Kent to counter Democrat policies such as Newsom’s that he believes undermine President Trump’s border progress.
“Why do cities bypass federal laws used against you and I? Foreign nationals get special treatment. I can’t sell them a gun, but they can police you with one. Congressman Roy, end this insanity,” he said.
Gautereaux, who runs Firearms Unlimited California and testified at a San Diego congressional field hearing, has guided Trump-aligned figures like Tulsi Gabbard and Joe Kent on border tours.

His non-profit uses custom software to track trafficking, uncovering threats like a terrorist cell phone near San Diego. Ben Bergquam, a Real America’s Voice correspondent, amplifies these concerns with his own exclusive footage.
The evidence of a San Diego, California, shooting and a Hanover Park, Illinois, arrest demands Congress act now.
San Diego Shooting Exposes Risks
As Gautereaux discussed recently, on May 31, 2025, a DACA recipient officer in San Diego fired three rounds during a traffic stop gone wrong, captured on bodycam.
Yelling “Get on your fucking knees!” the officer showed shaky de-escalation skills, yet California’s DOJ cleared them. Sanctuary laws hid their immigration status, infuriating Gautereaux, who learned of it through his gun store network.
“They can’t buy a gun from my store, but they can shoot you,” he said.
With 150,000+ views, the video flags risks in a border city where 80% of DACA recipients are Mexican, near cartel routes.
This isn’t a one-off; it’s a policy failure with national stakes that should be considered for all sanctuary cities..
Newsom’s Policies: Guns for Some, Bans for Others
On October 13, 2025, Newsom signed AB 1127, banning certain striker-fired semiautomatic pistols, like Glocks, that can be illegally modified with auto sears, effective July 1, 2026.
The NSSF, representing firearm retailers, called it a “Glock Ban” that hits over 1 million legal owners while ignoring existing felony laws on auto sears.
Meanwhile, Senate Bill 960, effective January 1, 2023, lets non-citizens with work authorization, including DACA recipients, become officers and carry department-issued firearms.
The Los Angeles Police Department has hired at least 10, and possibly up to 50, DACA officers since the program’s inception. Federal law (18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(5)) bars certain non-citizens from possessing guns, though exceptions cover authorized duties.
But this concern is not just about those 50 or so officers; it is about who else has access to policing the American people under the protections of sanctuary cities?
There are other Sanctuary States that have hired non-citizens for law enforcement as well, by passing federal laws. Where is the Trump administration on this?
In a recent interview with Frontline America, Gautereaux fumed about the perfect example of the problem: “Newsom’s gun grabs hit citizens, but loopholes arm non-citizens. It’s a double standard.”
Illinois Arrest Signals a National Trend that Needs to be Addressed
As reported this week by Bergquam for Real Americas Voice, which was highlighted by Gautereaux and covered by Frontline America, on October 15, 2025, ICE arrested Radule Bojovic, a Montenegrin national and Hanover Park, Illinois, officer, for overstaying a 2015 B-2 visa. Hired in January 2025 with work authorization, Bojovic carried a department-issued firearm on duty.
Bergquam asked: “How many others are out there with badges and guns, not even citizens?
Gautereaux’s and Bergquam Push for Government Action on Border Threats
Both Bergquam and Gautereaux highlight escalating local and national threats, including cartel activity and potential terrorist incursions.
In that recent conversation with Frontline America, Gautereaux described recovering a cell phone from an individual originating from the region between Pakistan and Afghanistan while doing an investigation for his non-profit.
The device, he said, contained a document from the Pakistan government labeling the owner of the phone and his organization as a terrorist group. This person subsequently appeared at the U.S. border, where the phone was obtained.
Gautereaux expressed frustration over the slow response from Trump officials regarding the dangers he is exposing and chronicling, stating he has been “getting louder- gently” to draw attention to his findings through investigations and networking.
Bergquam has also long reported on the same concerns with known terrorists being inside the United States and moving around freely:
Where is the Trump Administration?
Gautereaux emphasized to Frontline America the need for faster action, noting, “They need to start paying much more attention to the intel we have for them.”
Bergquam’s reporting this week has heightened Gauteraux’s urgency to amplify voices from his own border investigations. He is pressing his contacts to act faster against Democrat-led sanctuary city policies, like those under Governor Newsom, which he says put sanctuary protections ahead of public safety and effective law enforcement.
Lawmakers Push Back on Sanctuary Policies as Newsom’s 2028 Ambitions Loom
Lawmakers like Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) have been vocal about the need for more decisive action on sanctuary cities and border security, emphasizing that real change starts with grassroots voices. On August 19, 2025, Roy introduced the Sanctuary Penalty and Public Protection Act (H.R. 5005), which would withhold federal funds from jurisdictions that limit cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), including those that refuse to honor detainers or allow ICE interviews with detained migrants.
In a press release, highlighting grassroots involvement, Roy said the bill targets “sanctuary jurisdictions” that “shield criminal aliens,” warning that these policies threaten public safety and demand accountability. He has repeatedly urged Congress to listen to those on the ground, people like border expert Gautereaux, whose firsthand knowledge exposes the human and security costs of these policies.
During a 2025 House Judiciary Committee hearing on Restoring Immigration Enforcement in America, Roy argued that sanctuary policies undermine federal law and fuel border chaos. His stance reflects a broader push among House Republicans to prioritize American safety over local political maneuvering.
Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) joined that fight with her Citizen-Only Policing Act (H.R. 4783), introduced on August 1, 2025, which would block federal funding to law enforcement agencies that hire non-citizens, including DACA recipients and foreign nationals. Cammack has said such practices erode public trust and called for legislation shaped by “those on the front lines.”
Meanwhile, Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R-TX) introduced the Recouping Funds from Sanctuary Cities Act (June 11, 2025), aimed at clawing back federal dollars from cities that refuse to cooperate with immigration enforcement. Van Duyne, too, stressed the importance of amplifying community voices to build public pressure and support for reform.
Together, these efforts reflect a coordinated push to restore the values of accountability, public safety, and transparency that lawmakers say have been eroded under sanctuary policies. But while legislators move, the media largely ignores it, and the administration appears slow to act or even convene necessary meetings.
As elections draw near, politics inevitably creeps in. Yet, amid all the posturing, one truth remains clear: the longer Washington drags its feet and ignores the voices of the people, the more dangerous the consequences at the border become.
Just a reminder to stay vigilant, especially as Sanctuary City Governor- Gavin Newsom’s 2028 run looms on the horizon.
