Two additional suspects, Yohenry Brito, and Jandry Barros, have been arrested in connection with the assault on an NYPD lieutenant and officer outside a Manhattan migrant shelter. The attack occurred when the officers attempted to arrest a man in a yellow jacket outside the Candler Building on West 42nd Street. Surveillance video shows multiple people attacking the officers, resulting in scratches, bumps, and bruises. Twelve men are believed to be involved, with five still at large.
The first five arrested, Yorman Reveron, Darwin Andres Gomez-Izquiel, Wilson Juarez, Kelvin Service Arocha, and Jhoan Boada, face charges such as assault on a police officer, gang assault or attempted assault. Boada, despite denying involvement, was recognized by one of the officers based on his distinctive pink shoes. The suspects, all migrants living in other shelters, were released without bail after arraignment.
Yohenry Brito and Jandry Barros, the newly arrested suspects, await arraignment. Brito has prior arrests for petty larceny and robbery, while Barros has a previous arrest for petty larceny in Queens. The NYPD Chief of Patrol, John Chell, expressed outrage at the release of the initial five suspects, emphasizing the need for consequences to address the rising assaults on police officers.
